Backstory

“First, I will bury the worst parts of my memory, the dead parts of my heart, in the hole. Then I will cover it up and plant something inside it. Something that will grow. But I’m not sure if the dead parts will stay buried. I’m done with them. But I don’t think they are done with me.”

Rika was the second-born daughter of Shigure Shirogane, mere minutes younger than her sister Lyra due to her being kicked out of the womb they once shared. Her infant years were vibrant and largely peaceful, although her feisty nature was evident in those days. She played with toys similar to any other child but comically rough. Dolls were ragged and torn within days of joyous playtime. Numerous playmates would soon find themselves at the epicenter of her many tantrums, bruised and broken akin to young Rika’s tattered toys. By all reasonable accounts, she was the definition of a “problem child” and so the problem grew daily, from assaulting toys to other children, and surprisingly, even adults.Thankfully, Shigure sought counsel with the land’s best pediatricians, specializing in both the physical and mental medical fields. The root of her extreme behavioral issues was revealed to stem from the sudden disappearance of her mother, who vanished not long after her birth. Thus, she was long deprived of her love and much-needed parental half. Gradually, with treatment, Rika’s negative behavior waned, and the teenage years began. She was deep into practicing and studying alongside her incredibly studious sister. They took an interest in very different fields. Lyra had a thirst for knowledge in the arcane arts while Rika preferred to hone her unique physical prowess, gaining a level of mastery never before seen when compared to the best alumni of their prestigious academy. She was offered every scholarship possible for her craft and eventually got accepted to a particularly notable university. In such a competitive environment, Rika’s potential became truly realized, combing through years of military knowledge, learning various weapon types, and obtaining all sorts of comrades across the nation.She quickly became known for her bravery in the field, a morale booster to her allies, and leading to great success with every task given. Despite her rise through the ranks and the motivational pillar she had become, even the great Rika had limitations, and they would become terribly clear in due time. Jealousy and strife incarnate, a comrade turned traitor seemingly overnight would sabotage their squad. With a river turned red with the lifeblood of fallen friends, Rika was the sole survivor of the bloodshed. These events would leave a mental scar on Rika for some time, forcing her to drop the program altogether and return home. To support herself, she sought new opportunities and a clean slate. Therefore, she wandered the world on a quest to gain peace and acceptance.

Tenacity thy name is Rika. She is nothing at all if not very persistent, always quick to find solutions to problems regardless of how numerous they may be. Due to this fact she is almost always in a conflict of some sort, making her appear to be rash and even rude to people who don’t know her personally. Additionally, Rika also has a terrible habit of spouting her personal convictions no matter the listener, no one who owns ears is safe if they happen to be in her presence. In spite of her various flaws Rika is ultimately a kind woman who wishes nothing but the best for people and the world around her.
